The Chairman of the National Peace Council, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante has approached previous President John Dramani Mahama to apologize to the country for saying the restriction National Democratic Congress (NDC) will coordinate the administering New Patriotic Party boot-for-boot with brutality in the 2020 surveys.
While tending to NDC designates in the Adaklu Constituency of the Volta Region on Thursday, 31 January 2019, Mr Mahama said the NDC will coordinate the NPP boot-for-boot in the 2020 races if the administration endeavors to threaten and irritate NDC supporters with brutality.
The previous president’s remark pursued a shooting occurrence at the La-Bawaleshie JHS surveying station over the span of the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency by-race around the same time. The NDC blamed the NPP for being behind the shooting.
Mr. Mahama stated: “We are not going to joke in 2020, and I’m sounding a notice to the NPP – we are going to coordinate them boot for boot… ”
“I need to sound an alert that NDC has a progressive root and with regards to releasing brutality, nobody can beat us to that. It is only that we are aware of this present nation’s popular government and that is the reason we should be the first to regard it. That is the reason we are going about as a gathering that is accommodating and regarding the standard of law. In any case, on the off chance that we trust that the legislature can’t secure our kin and we trust that the administration is utilizing its vigilante gatherings and illicit powers to threaten and bug and harm our kin, at that point we may need to exhort ourselves.”
He included: “We regard the Constitution of this nation and the NDC is a majority rule party and that is the reason we keep the guidelines of the Constitution. In any case, a similar Constitution says that Ghanaians should oppose anyone who endeavors to subvert the Constitution. When you run rampaging with powers and scaring individuals when they should turn out and vote, you are subverting the Constitution. Furthermore, we have a direction to oppose you.”
Responding to Mr. Mahama’s notice to the NPP, Rev. Asante told Benjamin Akakpo on the Executive Breakfast Show (EBS) on Class91.3FM on Friday, 1 February 2019, that the previous president should be attentive in his discourse.
Rev. Asante stated: “On the off chance that President John Mahama said what he stated, it is exceptionally awful in light of the fact that he has been a head of state, he has been the leader of the country, he is competing for his gathering to make him the presidential hopeful, and if the general population of Ghana needs him once more, he could turn into the leader of this country. Furthermore, on the off chance that it will be ‘boot-for-boot’ for the country to be ablaze, at that point there is no kindness for anyone. Also, I think tragically in annoyance, such things ought to be said.
“I implore and I need to trust that he didn’t mean it, he did it because of annoyance. We must be extremely prudent and under such conditions watch the things that we state.
“On the off chance that he said that, I would need to state that President Mahama, with all quietude, I will beg him to apologize to the country. In putting forth that expression, he has truly made dread in the hearts of individuals and it’s not simply President Mahama I will say this to, I need to express this to every one of our pioneers, individuals we are gazing upward to in this country; that under such conditions one would expect that they will be the voice of shrewdness, a voice that will quiet pressure, a voice that will help Ghanaians to almost certainly say: Indeed, we have pioneers. In this way, if you don’t mind how about we be extremely watchful about these things that we state”.
Addressing the quietness of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo 24 hours after the shooting episode, Rev Asante stated: “Now and again, it is critical for us to learn local insight. The Akans state one who is a pioneer does not just bounce into circumstances. At the point when matters occur, you’ll survey the circumstance, you get all the data previously you talk. The thing happened yesterday, it is too soon for individuals to state the president has kept quiet on this issue. It isn’t for me to safeguard or represent anyone.”
